ENGAGING THE architectural services of KDW Design the owners wanted to retain the appealing style of their Holland Park home but add the modern convenience of a glass lift going from the drive-in garage to the two floors above. Fortunately the home totally lent itself to this retrofit and the end result – looks like it has always been there.
For this project, the shaft was constructed by the builder and consisted of reinforced blockwork at the lower level and then glass and steel for the next two levels to make the most of the view of the garden and pool area. To ensure maximum sight lines are maintained, the lift automatically returns to the lower level when not in use – this also keeps the air temperature inside the cabin more comfortable, a heat exhaust fan has also been added to the top of the shaft to keep the hot Queensland sun under control.
